- Adds weight to seed making it easier to handle, resulting in more even distribution for a uniform stand. Seed also stays put in overwatering conditions with less "puddling".
- Increases seeds' visibility for easier monitoring of seeding rate.
- Discourages bird predation by "disguising" the seed.

- Expands root and rhizome development.
- More top growth and tillering of plants for faster spreading and earlier cover of bare areas.

- Hygroscopic nature of coating pulls moisture from soil to seed.
